Research areas

What INGO ADVISORY researches

Independent, non-commercial research into security risk, security intelligence, operational risk, regional security, emerging threats, early warning and professional development — across Africa, with a focus on East Africa and the Horn of Africa.

Research areas

How the research is organised

Each area feeds the others: open-source monitoring supplies the raw material, analysis adds context and judgement, and practical resources turn the findings into something usable in the field.

01

Risk & Threat Analysis

Threat identification, vulnerability and exposure analysis, likelihood and impact rating, and mitigation logic — written so the assessment can be defended in front of a board or a country management team.

  • Country and site security risk assessments
  • Threat actor and capability analysis
  • Likelihood, impact and risk-rating matrices
  • Risk registers with named controls and owners
  • UK threat-level terminology applied consistently

02

Security Intelligence & OSINT

Structured open-source intelligence across Africa: incident monitoring, indicator tracking and specialist watches. Records are harvested from public sources, cross-referenced where possible, and published with provenance and reliability grading.

  • Continuous open-source incident monitoring
  • Threat indicator tracking and early warning
  • Maritime, aviation and climate security watches
  • Cyber and information-threat signals
  • NATO-style source reliability and analyst confidence

03

Geopolitical Analysis

Analysis of political transitions, armed conflict dynamics, actor alignment, sanctions and regional competition — traced through to what it means for security posture, movement and continuity in specific countries.

  • Political transition and election-related risk
  • Conflict dynamics and armed actor mapping
  • Regional competition and external influence
  • Sanctions, borders and access implications
  • Red Sea, Gulf of Aden and Horn of Africa geopolitics

04

Safety & Duty of Care

Journey management, corridor and route risk, travel safety and duty-of-care frameworks for organisations moving staff through complex environments. Advisory and planning only — no physical protection, rescue or evacuation services.

  • Journey management and route risk planning
  • Corridor and checkpoint mapping
  • Travel risk and pre-deployment briefing
  • Duty-of-care frameworks and accountability
  • Access constraint monitoring
Explore safety and duty of care
05

Security Project Management

The discipline that carries a finding from assessment to closure: scoping security workstreams, sequencing mitigation, assigning ownership, tracking implementation and evidencing that controls were actually put in place.

  • Security workstream scoping and sequencing
  • Mitigation plans with owners, dates and evidence
  • Standard operating procedures and rollout
  • Assurance, audit trails and review cycles
  • Stakeholder and board-level reporting

06

Crisis & Incident Management

Crisis phases, scenario planning, incident classification and post-incident analysis — designed so the first hour of an incident follows a rehearsed structure rather than improvisation.

  • Crisis phases and scenario planning
  • Incident classification and analysis
  • Crisis simulation and exercise design
  • Business continuity in complex environments
  • Lessons-learned and control revision

Open-source intelligence

Research grounded in public sources and analyst judgement

INGO ADVISORY is an independent, non-commercial research project. Its analysis is built from open-source and licensed public data, cross-referenced where possible and published with source attribution and confidence. It is not a continuously staffed monitoring service and does not provide physical security, rescue or evacuation.

Source registry

Pan-African perspective. Horn of Africa and East Africa depth.

INGO ADVISORY provides Africa-focused intelligence and research, with particular operational depth across the Horn of Africa and East Africa — Somalia, Somaliland, Puntland, Kenya, Ethiopia, Djibouti, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi and South Sudan.

Direct capability
The Horn of Africa and East Africa, where long-standing regional networks and practitioner experience inform the work.
Trusted local networks
Other African markets are covered through public sources, vetted local monitors and partner networks. We do not claim offices or standing teams in every country.
Intelligence coverage
All 54 African states are covered analytically through the Africa Intelligence Centre.
