About the project
A personal, independent and non-commercial research and professional development initiative maintained by Mowlid Ali, focused on security, operational risk and emerging threats across Africa, with particular interest in East Africa and the Horn of Africa.
Research is developed using publicly available information, including open-source reporting, public datasets, humanitarian sources, government publications and specialist research. The purpose is to encourage security awareness, professional learning and informed discussion around complex operating environments.
Research areas
The research is organised into areas that feed one another: open-source monitoring produces the raw material, analysis adds context and judgement, and practical resources turn the findings into something usable.
Threat identification, vulnerability and exposure analysis, likelihood and impact rating, and mitigation logic — written so the assessment can be defended in front of a board or a country management team.
Structured open-source intelligence across Africa: incident monitoring, indicator tracking and specialist watches. Records are harvested from public sources, cross-referenced where possible, and published with provenance and reliability grading.
Analysis of political transitions, armed conflict dynamics, actor alignment, sanctions and regional competition — traced through to what it means for security posture, movement and continuity in specific countries.
Journey management, corridor and route risk, travel safety and duty-of-care frameworks for organisations moving staff through complex environments. Advisory and planning only — no physical protection, rescue or evacuation services.
